Western Rye Multiplayer & 4-Player Co-op Explained

Western Rye supports single-player, online co-op and LAN co-op. Here is what is officially confirmed about four-player frontier play.

How many players can play together?

Up to four players can play Western Rye together. The Steam description says co-op groups can build homesteads side by side, share resources, cover one another in combat, complete missions and bounties, and sleep through the night together.

That makes co-op more than a combat queue: the advertised loop supports a division of labor. One player can gather or hunt while another builds or farms, and the group can pool resources at the homestead.

Is multiplayer required?

No. Steam lists full single-player support. A developer reply from February also described multiplayer as optional and said the game has a solo offline mode. We treat the Steam feature listing as the current primary confirmation and the Reddit reply as supporting context.

Online and LAN

Steam lists both Online Co-op and LAN Co-op. The system requirements say an internet connection is required for multiplayer excluding LAN, which is useful confirmation that LAN is intended to work without the same internet requirement.

What remains launch-build verification

The store page does not currently document fine-grained session behavior such as host migration, shared quest-state edge cases, save ownership or whether every world setting can be changed after creation. Those questions should be tested in the Early Access build instead of inferred.
