What are Husks?

Husks are infected humans tied to the Rye Fever, the catastrophe hanging over Western Rye’s frontier. The official page says they are blind and sound-sensitive, which strongly suggests sound awareness matters in encounters. We stop there: exact detection ranges and stealth formulas are not publicly confirmed.

Other hostile groups

Steam also describes:

  • outlaw bandit raiding parties that control supply routes and ambush travelers,
  • cannibal cultists in darker areas,
  • a hostile renegade faction associated with arson.

The story copy connects a Priest to the mystery of a cannibalistic cult and hints that the Sheriff and Marshal know more about the wider crisis.

Can combat be avoided?

A February developer reply said the sandbox is designed so players can focus on fishing, hunting, farming, trading, building and gathering rather than constantly fighting. That is useful intent from the developer, but exact launch-world enemy avoidance and world-setting options need current verification.
